The One With Batman and Catwoman

Batman and Catwoman
If anyone know us...they know that Jonah LOVES Batman.  In the last 5 years, 3 of his birthday parties have been Batman themed and 4 of his Halloween costumes have been Batman.  This year he convinced his sister to be Catwoman.
I made these treats for their parties.

I also made these Owl Cupcakes for their parties.

The One Where I Wish Jonah a Happy 5th Birthday

On this day five years ago at 7:19 a.m. we welcomed a 9.5 pound bundle of joy into our lives.  Yes, 9.5 pounds.
This little boy stole my heart and my life was forever changed that day.

Again...those blue eyes!

....and again.  Smitten.
Today as a 5 year old he is the boy that...
  • only wakes up early on Saturday
  • is obsessed with Super Heroes, but especially Batman
  • may or may not be Batman
  • is sweet to his sister
  • on any given day says he either wants to grow up and be an engineer, a coach, in the army or a Super Hero
  • could eat Fruity Pebbles for every meal
  • does not like thunderstorms or the dark
  • calls about 5 ladies at church Pam...there are only 3
  • always runs back to give me one more hug
  • will randomly start signing hymns from church...which I love
  • has dance parties with his sister
  • when asked how you get out in baseball, his reply was "through the gate" - we learned a lot this year :)
  • looks up to those Fighting Quanah Indians
  • says "I Love You" out of the blue and it always melts my heart
  • about 1/2 the time he says "I Love You" out of the blue though is when he is getting in trouble

Jonah on his 4th Birthday

Another one from his 4th birthday.  His sweet smile.
This morning Jason asked me if I was sad.  I said not really.  Looking back at baby pictures makes me a little sentimental...and sad I can't go back and squeeze their tiny, soft hands or smell their yummy, baby scent.  Often times people would tell me to savor those moments and I did.  I remember holding my babies and reminding myself to enjoy this and to remember it forever and I did.  I soaked up my babies and I stored those memories in my forever memory bank.
I only hope that I am savoring just as much today with them.  It seems we get so busy with life.  I love to have them with me...at church, at ball games and at home on our cozy couch.  They don't stay little forever and I just hope we are raising them right.  I hope they are able to go out on their own and soar one day.
There are so many kids I've watched grow up and are making wonderful life decisions.  I hope that is our kids one day.  I pray over them and I want them to know God.  I want them to be happy and enjoy this life.

Jonah you are loved by so many...from your sister, Mommy and Jason, Daddy and Lauren, Daddy Keys and Gigi, Grandpa, Papa, Mimi and Poppy, Uncle Thad & Aunt Jenny, several other Aunts and Uncles, many cousins, friends and teachers.
I'm sure Grandma and Meme are smiling down on you from Heaven.
Enjoy your day!

Winston

I believe it’s time to write a post about our beloved dog, Winston.  His full name is Sir Winston Charles Henry Peabody.  Santa delivered him to the kids at Christmas in 2010.  He is the cutest little dog, but boy does he bark and RUN AWAY!  His nickname is Houdini.  When we moved into our new house he discovered lots of ways to get out.  After many escapes we covered up all of his holes, but just last week he began digging to get out.  We have got to step up our game!  We are lucky enough to live in a small town with a ton of generous people that have gone out of their way to rescue him.  Today I would like to tell a few stories and thank those people.
·         There are a few people that have called us that I do not remember their name.  One kind lady lived near the football field.
·         Beverly Rodriguez and her family who live clear across town by Sonic took care of Winston after he followed them home.  We were out of town at a baseball game and they cared for him until we got back home.  I remember she said her son told her that it was Coach Sims’ dog and to take good care of him.  I thought that was sweet.
·         Jenny Jo Barker has called us a couple times to let us know he was visiting at the bank.  She said he just came inside and laid around while they worked.
·         In one week alone we got calls from the funeral home, the courthouse, the bank and the fire department.  He wouldn’t stay in one place long enough for us to capture him.
·         He has visited several of our neighbors who have captured and returned him for us including Susan Gibson, Coach Bo Helm & his wife Hayley and Chris & Angie Andrews.  The day he went to the Helm’s he must’ve just wanted to visit our old home.  The afternoon he went to the Andrews’ house Chris was cooking some good smelling food on his smoker and luckily Winston ran right up to him.
·         Not too long ago Winston was gone for almost three days.  This was the longest he had been gone.  Jason found him at the vet.  This time the gate was left open by a worker that had been at our house so fortunately we didn’t have to pay or go before the judge.  Kim Callaway was so nice to check on us and make sure we found him.
·         Bubba Thomas has also had the pleasure of dealing with Winston.  One day he saw Jason out chasing him and he stopped to help catch him and fix the gate.  Another day our doorbell rang and we opened it to find Bubba standing there with Winston.  That’s when I decided we were gonna need to make some goodie bags to hand out to all of the people that bring Winston back home.
·         I think that was the same day that Jaime Mathews called her sister Jenny Jo to see if we had found him.  That was sweet of her to check on him.
·         Brandi Leija and her family are no strangers to Winston either.  When she worked at US Cellular she called when she saw him taking a little stroll downtown.  Another day Winston followed the Cross Country team to their house and Marcus Leija and Matthew Day brought him home.  Just the other night our doorbell rang after we were in bed and it was Cody Bodine and Landin Leija bringing him home.  Winston had escaped on his birthday and stayed out way too late.  Little party animal.
We are so grateful for EACH and EVERY ONE of YOU!!!!  If I have forgotten someone I am very sorry.  I should have been writing all of this down…

Home Sweet Home

On August 10th, we finally moved into our new home which we have now dubbed as "Green Acres" because it's on Green Street.  We love it! We moved right as football season was starting so it has been a little hectic, but we will get it all together soon.

What we love most about our new home:
  • The kids now have their own bedrooms.
  • We have a guest room for our family and friends to stay in when they come visit.
  • We have beautiful natural light all throughout the house.
  • Beautiful floors and other little details.
  • Huge yard with lots of places to plant pretty things.
  • Our front door ----> LOVE it!
  • The stairs have become our kid's new playground.

Adventures we have had thus far:
  • We brought anew fridge home and we had some kind, fellow coaches who helped us unload it and get it set up.  Before it was all said and done though... the other coaches went home and Jason was left with just me.  At one point our kitchen was covered in water...the kids were really concerned and my heart was just filled with joy because I knew everything was going to be ok.  I was with my family in a wonderful home and we are fortunate to have fresh, drinking water!!
  • The night before school started we had a water pipe and we had to take our showers at the field house.  I know...it was a lovely experience with me telling the kids 10 times...leave your sandals on!!
  • I started a load of laundry last week only to fill the entire house with smoke. We were blessed quickly with a "new to us" washer that works great!
Happy Home Owning, Folks!

We really couldn't be happier!! Bring on the Adventures!!!

The Night Before School Starts

I would have loved to give an update on our move and the adventures of our new home these past few weeks, but we have been without Internet since we moved. I'm posting from my phone right now and it's not as fun for me...
It's been an adventure for sure! Just like tonight...we are up at the field house taking our showers because a water pipe busted at our house! On a Sunday and on the night before school starts! No worries though, we just keep living no matter what comes our way! I hope to have Internet soon so I can give y'all an update!
I will leave you with this video of the kids sporting their back to school pajamas!

Boo! I can't upload the video from my phone....to see it just go to my Instagram. I will post it there until I can add it later!

Goodnight and I hope everyone has a great first day!!

Things I learned in July...

Today I am linking up with Emily Freeman at Chatting at the Sky.  She does a post at the end of the month and shares random things she has learned that month.  You can read her posts here.

Here are just a few things I learned about myself this month.  Just some quirky, silly, random things :)

1.  Self-help checkout at Walmart or any store is just awesome and now I get to enjoy that at our local store.  It's the little things.

2.  I discovered this month that every time I buy hot dogs I think about that scene from Father of the Bride.  Am I the only one that does this? In case you've forgotten or never seen it....here ya go.

3.  This month I learned that if I'm really honest with myself... I love football MORE than shopping.  I know some ladies may think I'm crazy, but it's true.  I like shopping.  I like to wander through the store by myself and inspect all of the shelves and racks.  I enjoy searching for a good bargain.  I do my favorite bargain hunting at TJ Maxx.  Even though I like shopping, I LOVE football.  I love hearing my husband talk about it.  I love watching shows about it and watching football games on every level.  I love being under the Friday Night Lights watching the Quanah Indians play.  I love the anticipation and the excitement.  I love being a coach's wife.

With that being said I also want to share with you why today is a holiday at our house.  About a month ago I was thinking about how our years never really run from January to December.  They really start in August.  For me being such a fanatic that things are in chronological order it took a while for me to just go with it.  Last month I decided I was really just going to embrace it, from everything from our pictures, photo books, kids stuff, planners.  I decided to forgo the January-December planner.  I bought me a new life planner from Erin Condren that runs from August to July.  I love it.

So today is our new New Year's Day and last night was our New Year's Eve.  I like it.  This is us.  We live for the sports seasons.  Our next chapter is about to begin.  Two-a-days starts on Monday, then we will have our first scrimmage on the 17th and then our first ball game on the 30th. I can't wait.

To those of you that also live in this world of August to July ----- Happy New Year's to you!!

Our Anniversary Trip - Part 2

On our third day in Fredericksburg we grabbed some breakfast at the Java Ranch Espresso Bar & Cafe.  We had some hot coffee and croissant sandwiches.  Delicious.  After breakfast we shopped and shopped! We probably went into almost every store.

After we shopped we went to the Admiral Nimitz Museum.  This place was my favorite thing we did on this trip.  Even if you don't love history, go here and you will be impressed with how modern their museum is.  They had room after room of some awesome stuff.  I learned a lot from visiting this museum.  It was great!

After the museum we headed to the one and only Luckenbach, Texas.  We stayed for about an hour and enjoyed their pickers circle.

The biggest cat I have ever seen lives in Luckenbach.

After we left Luckenbach we went to have dinner at the Cabernet Grill.  It was very good.  Dessert was amazing!

These were some pretty flowers in front of the place we stayed.  Everything was so lush there....really beautiful.

Our final day we went shopping for a few more things for Olivia and Jonah.

Afterwards we went to the Pacific War Combat Zone.
Huge torpedoes...

We had a yummy lunch at Hondo's.  Delicious burgers...and beautiful patio area.

Yee Haw...we were on our way home.  We took this at an antique store we stopped at along the way.

....but first one more stop at a football field.  This is the Puncherdome in Mason, Texas.
