Things I Learned in July...

1) When taking the dog to the vet.... you might as well forget about the coffee, because it will be EVERYWHERE.  Winston is no problem taking to the vet and traveling in the car.  Now, Tripp on the other hand, not so much.  This is how he rode to the vet a couple of weeks ago.

Right behind me...

or on top of the dash.

2) I'm sure this lesson is for any time.... but when you are a new homeowner and your bank sends you a check that they claim is an overage that you paid, Don't Buy It!!  Hang onto that money because when they find their error you will have to send it back.  Just hope it's not after you receive a letter in the mail about a tax lien on your property.  We were like whaaa???? Fortunately, the bank fixed the problem on their end...and we only have to pay back a portion of the $ they sent us.

3) It's only when you are having the most amazing, wonderful sleep will your new puppy wake you up to go outside.  Every.  Time.

4) I am reading "The Longest Ride" by Nicholas Sparks and on page 321 it says... "I can no longer open a jar of jelly; I have the cashier at the supermarket do it before she slips it into the bag."
Now that right there is a genius tip.  I hope when I'm older and my hands are too weak to open my jelly or peanut butter....my mind will still be good enough to remember this piece of advice.  Genius.

5) Those of you that know my husband know that he is a wonderful storyteller.  I love his stories.  He has these crazy, heartfelt, could never happen in a million years stories ... stuff that needs to go into a book.... He is a words guy and he loves history and football and can get off onto politics in a nano second....

We have been together for the past 3 years and I have loved every minute of it.  During our time together I have listened to lots of stories...I have seen 100s of plays drawn up and explained....I have learned about defenses and offenses...I have listened to techniques, ideas & different philosophies regarding politics, religion, sports & life in general.  I have heard sweet, romantic compliments and encouragements.  I have learned many things.  I have been intrigued.  I have blushed.  I have always been able to give my 2 cents and he listens to my every word.

...but last night I learned something very important.

We were in bed and it was kind of late.  I put down my Nicholas Sparks book and muttered something about ugh that book...because of course, I had just finished a sad part...and I was emotional about it.  He turned out the light and asked me what was going on in my book.  I asked him...Do you really want to know? and he said... yeah, the short version.

I said... after all the times I have asked you 1 question and have gotten a 30 minute answer...you want the short version?
He said well, you never asked me for the short version.  Hahahahaha I said...well, I didn't know that was an option!

I do now.

We laughed so hard about this.

Marriage is the best.  You learn new things everyday.  You grow together and change for the better.  You come to know your spouse better than they know themselves.  You protect your marriage with prayer, common sense and an ever growing love.

I love him and the next time I'm sleepy, I'm going to be sure and ask for the short version.

Things I learned in June...

I enjoy the first day of each month...just like the first day of the year....it has such promise!!
I have all these ideas and thoughts swirling around in my head of the things I want to accomplish.

I have seen some bloggers posting their goals for the month of July and I think I shall participate, but first...

What I learned in June:::

Usually, Emily from Chatting at the Sky does a monthly post called... What We Learned... and she shares the things (funny & serious) that she learned the past month.  She is taking a blogging break this summer so there is not a post to link up to, but I decided to write my own post anyway.

You can see my other two Things I learned posts here and here.

In the month of June I learned...

1.  When your mom calls and is talking about how much she is missing your kids, but is beating around the bush asking you to come visit.... Go see her!
Even if you have a million things to do.  Even if you are trying to save money for a trip to Disney World.  Even if you miss your husband terribly whenever you're apart.
Even if it wasn't "planned."

Go see her!!

You won't regret the sweet memories that your kids will make while spending time at their Gigi's (or Nana's or Mimi's or Grandma's etc...)
We just wish Daddy Keys would've been able to be home!
I know he misses the kids too.

2.  I also learned to just put on the swimsuit.
I have not worn a swimsuit in two years...I know.
It's pretty ridiculous.

My friend Shelbye shared this post from The Mom Creative on Facebook and then I read it a second time when my blogging friend, Becky from bybmg posted it.

My kids won't be little for long and I want them to remember having fun with me...on dry land and in the water :) I don't want to worry about how I look in a swimsuit so much.
I don't want to care about what other people think.
I just want to be happy each day and make my kids happy!

When Mom learned we were going to visit her for a couple of days she told me that she wanted to try and take the kids swimming...
Ummmm....yeah that sounds like a lot of fun mom, but I don't even own a suit.
Then this blog post by The Mom Creative popped into my head and I thought....she is so right!! So we made a stop at Target and stocked up on pool stuff including a new swimsuit for me!
The kids were fired up to go swimming!!
It was so much fun hanging out with them at the pool...and not just putting my feet in!

The rest of this summer I plan on putting on that swimsuit even though I still have lots of "marbles" to lose and just enjoy these summer days with Olivia & Jonah!!

Did you learn anything interesting, quirky or funny
 this past month?

I hope your July is filled with lots of fun summer days making memories with those that you love!!!

Things I Learned in March...

Today I am linking up with Emily Freeman again @ Chatting at the Sky.  I have done this once before back in July and enjoyed it, so here we go...
(tbh {that's "to be honest" for those that aren't up on the teenager lingo ;) }...some of these I learned in the months right after this last post)

1.  Someone told me that you can purchase an entire bag of PINK Starbursts.  Is this true? I must find out for sure.  Those are the best ones.

2.  That deer graze by the moon.  The best time to hunt deer is early in the morning when the moon is still out and the sun is coming up..... Is this true? I, myself, have never hunted before, but I'm curious...

3.  That it's a good day to fish when all of the cows are standing.  This one I do not know myself either, but my friend Hayley told me that and I do not question her.  At all.  She knows about life.  And stuff.

4. Mr. Pibb is actually Pibb Extra now.  Apparently, it changed a long time ago....  Either way it is still no Dr. Pepper.  I only order it if we are at the movies and I just have to.

5.  Done is truly better than perfect.  Especially, when it is regarding my home.  I always want things to be perfect, but Jason is great about helping me just get things done.  I've realized that if I don't like something I can change it later.  The world does not end.  Who knew? :)

Then I got lost while reading Emily's list of things she learned in March.

Such as.... "3. If you ask Siri “What planes are flying over my head?” she will give you a list of planes that can possibly be seen in the sky from where you’re standing: the name of the airplane, the flight number, and the altitude."

Oh my.  I did that and Siri listed several planes that were flying in the blue skies above me.  I said a prayer for each of those flights.  That's amazing, Siri.

and her 4.
"So the other day, I had several deadlines looming so naturally I thought it was a great time to download My Heritage app and find out which celebrity I’m looking like these days. I took a quick selfie and waited for my results."

Then I downloaded the My Heritage app myself....hahaha.  Time not wasted.  The kids got a kick out of this app last night.  So fun.  Tomorrow I will try to post all of our pics.  They are classic.

Try it yourself and check out some of the other links on Emily's post.

Happy Wednesday, friends.

Things I learned in July...

Today I am linking up with Emily Freeman at Chatting at the Sky.  She does a post at the end of the month and shares random things she has learned that month.  You can read her posts here.

Here are just a few things I learned about myself this month.  Just some quirky, silly, random things :)

1.  Self-help checkout at Walmart or any store is just awesome and now I get to enjoy that at our local store.  It's the little things.

2.  I discovered this month that every time I buy hot dogs I think about that scene from Father of the Bride.  Am I the only one that does this? In case you've forgotten or never seen it....here ya go.

3.  This month I learned that if I'm really honest with myself... I love football MORE than shopping.  I know some ladies may think I'm crazy, but it's true.  I like shopping.  I like to wander through the store by myself and inspect all of the shelves and racks.  I enjoy searching for a good bargain.  I do my favorite bargain hunting at TJ Maxx.  Even though I like shopping, I LOVE football.  I love hearing my husband talk about it.  I love watching shows about it and watching football games on every level.  I love being under the Friday Night Lights watching the Quanah Indians play.  I love the anticipation and the excitement.  I love being a coach's wife.

With that being said I also want to share with you why today is a holiday at our house.  About a month ago I was thinking about how our years never really run from January to December.  They really start in August.  For me being such a fanatic that things are in chronological order it took a while for me to just go with it.  Last month I decided I was really just going to embrace it, from everything from our pictures, photo books, kids stuff, planners.  I decided to forgo the January-December planner.  I bought me a new life planner from Erin Condren that runs from August to July.  I love it.

So today is our new New Year's Day and last night was our New Year's Eve.  I like it.  This is us.  We live for the sports seasons.  Our next chapter is about to begin.  Two-a-days starts on Monday, then we will have our first scrimmage on the 17th and then our first ball game on the 30th. I can't wait.

To those of you that also live in this world of August to July ----- Happy New Year's to you!!
