Father's Day

Recently, we made a shopping trip with the kids.  While we were at a bookstore I told the kids they could each pick out one book.  I let them search the shelves and then they brought me their “treasures.”  They were such treasures that the book Olivia picked out moved me to tears.  The title was “An Ode to Fathers and Step-fathers, Dad and Pop.” I know that my kids don’t have the exact childhood that I imagined they would, but at times I am gently reminded that what’s important is that they are loved by many people.  Our kids are growing up with two father figures in their lives and just like this special book illustrated it might be two different worlds, but they are loved and cared for in both of them.  The book describes how Dad and Pop like different things and teach the kids different things, but the most important thing is that they both love them.

Ah, melts my heart.  I am so thankful to know God and to have hope in Him to turn our messy lives into beautiful stories.  All I am and all that I have I owe to Him.

On the day of Father’s Day we started it out early before church with breakfast and handpicked gifts for “Pop.” I let the kids pick out his gifts all by themselves; they were so cute as they carefully thought about what they would choose.  Olivia picked out a football and golf balls.  She must think he’s into sports… Jonah not missing a beat decided to pick out something that both of them enjoyed... the movie "The Green Lantern” and a can of cashews, a perfect movie snack.

This is what the kids made at Kids Korner. So cute.
Pop with all of his handpicked gifts.

I love the sweet look on Jonah's face.

After church we dropped off the kids with their Daddy and headed to the big city to see my Dad.  We popped in for a short visit and a gift exchange.  That day was also our 1 year anniversary so we had dinner reservations in Dallas to get to.

My Dad. His gift bag was railroad theme to match
 his hardworking career with BNSF.

Even though I did not get to spend the entire day with my dad, I appreciate and love him very much.  He hung the moon as far as I’m concerned.  I have not known a sweeter, more hardworking man.  He will do anything for his family.  Most importantly he has loved my Mama for over 30 years.  He has showed me how a husband should treat his wife. I remember him telling me a few years ago that when he is away from her because of work that he really misses her and can’t wait to get back home to her.
