Life as a Coach's Wife

The Fighting Quanah Indians finished their 2012 season last Thursday night.  They played the Stamford Bulldogs (#2) in Wichita Falls for the Region 1A Division 1 semifinal.  It might’ve been the Indians last game this season, but they didn’t go out without a fight.  They played their hearts out and I couldn’t be more proud.

After the game Coach Sims asked if it was bittersweet for me because 1) I was sad it was over, but 2) I would get to have my husband back… As I looked around trying to remember this moment as we closed the 2012 Football Season, I thought more than anything I would miss it.  Yes, my husband is super busy during this time of year.  He pours his heart and soul and time into his career.  He cares about those kids, but not once though did I ever feel like he didn’t make me or our family a priority.

My first year as a coach’s wife is turning out to be better than I ever could have imagined.  I love my husband and I enjoy his job.  I have loved going to his games, getting to know people in this community and the fans.  I think the kids he coaches are talented, smart and just some good kids that have promising futures.  I love being a part of this.

I will miss football season.

I will miss the pep rallies.  I will miss the anticipation of kickoff.  I will miss my favorite moment of when Coach Sims takes the field and gives me that look that makes me feel like I am exactly where I am supposed to be.

I will miss cheering with the kids and packing up all of our necessities for the games.  I will miss being surrounded by friends and Quanah Indian supporters in the stands.  I will miss the "good lucks" and the "congrats" shared between other coach's wives.

I will miss watching my husband in his element.  I will miss the excitement and not being able to breathe during 4 quarters as I await the outcome of the game.  I will miss greeting him after the games and hearing about the game’s details from his point of view.

I will miss watching the pure talent that is displayed on that field....the hard hits, the awesome catches, the precise passes, the strength & power, the speed & determination.  I will miss the beauty of a team coming together and having the same mindset and goals.

I will miss seeing my parents on those Friday nights.  I will miss tweeting with my Uncle Jim in North Carolina who followed us enthusiastically all season.

I will miss it all.

I have learned so much about being a coach’s wife these first few months and I hope after a few seasons I get it right because there is nothing I want more than to be the best coach’s wife I can be to my husband.

….but life as a coach’s wife doesn’t end with football season.  It is something I live 365 days a year.  I can’t wait to see what the next seasons bring.  I am ready to cheer on the basketball teams, track teams, golf, tennis, baseball and softball.  It is going to be a fantastic year and I will be ready to celebrate at the Sports Banquet and then do it all again!

And to those football seniors….  You amazed us and made us proud.  I know high school is important especially your senior year, but the truth is your life is only beginning! I wish you all the very best life has to offer.  Congratulations on a wonderful season! PUHA!!

Thankful in November, Thankful Always

As the month of November ends, I am reminded of everything I am so very thankful for.  I love this time of year.  I enjoy reading all of the thankful posts on facebook.  We are all so busy throughout the year and to spend an entire month (or everyday) saying what we are thankful is so necessary to keep us grounded.

Some of the things I am thankful for:::

·   God’s grace and mercy – I know I say this often, but I truly am thankful for God’s grace and mercy.  Each day is a new beginning and I know that God is forgiving and loves me unconditionally. Because of Him I can accomplish the things I do during each day…because of Him I can love others how He loves me…because of Him I can forgive others as He forgives me….because of Him I know that I have peace and joy in my life everyday…I just have to accept it.

·   My Husband, Coach Sims - He is for sure my better half.  He encourages me daily and reminds me how much he loves me.  I thank God each day for bringing him into my life. He exudes joy, patience, kindness, strength and wisdom…just to name a few.  He makes life fun and exciting.  He’s my best friend.

·   My sweet children, Olivia & Jonah – Life would not be the same without them.  They teach me how to slow down and enjoy life daily. They amaze me with their ability to learn new things.  They are growing so fast, but I try to remind myself to enjoy the messes and the chaos because one day they will be on their own and the house will be quiet.

·   My parents, Bobby & Gwen – They have always been there for me.  They would do anything for me and continue to love on me. They have sacrificed and worked so hard for us.  I appreciate them so much.  They are pretty awesome!

·   My brother and his wife, Thadius & Jenny –Best brother a girl could have and the sister I never had.  I wish we lived closer because I really miss them!

·   Our church and church family, North Groesbeck Church of Christ – Wow! They are incredible and have done so much for my family this past year! I could never thank them enough.

·   My J-O-B and my Boss, Shanna – I have the best boss.  Not only is she my boss, but she is one of my best friends.  She is always t here for me and I think she is great at her job! She does so much for our department and so many things go unnoticed. It can be a thankless job, but I appreciate everything she does! My job is wonderful because it allows me to help others while also being able to be there for my own children.

·   My home – I love coming home to a happy, cozy home, but what I love the most about it is who I share it with.

·   My health – I have been so fortunate and sometimes I forget to thank God for this. I’m so glad I have remained healthy and hope I continue to.

·   Coffee – Man, I love coffee.  Brewing a cup in the mornings makes me happy.  Sitting down with my husband or friends to enjoy a cup is the best. Mmmmm.

·   Chapstick – Chapstick Addict.  I always have it near me….usually in my pocket.  I can’t leave home without it.

·   Cupcakes – Aren’t they cute and yummy? Who doesn’t love cupcakes?

·   My Bible – This Great Book has literally saved my life many times! It holds life’s answers. I would be lost without it.

·   Hudl – I really am thankful for this.  It allows my husband to be home more.  He can work right beside me! I love it! Thank you Hudl!

·   Inspirational Women in my life – My Mom, my Mimi, Stacey Johnson (Thoughts Swirling), Angie Smith (Bring the Rain), Ann Voskamp (A Holy Experience), Joyce Meyer (Joyce Meyer Ministries), Beth Moore(Living Proof Ministries), Susie Davis (Susie Davis Blog), Heather Lindsey (Heather Lindsey Blog) and Emily Freeman (Chatting at the Sky).

·   TJ Maxx – Bargain hunting at its best.  I love a good bargain  and when I go out of town I love to get my TJ Maxx fix.

·   Books & Bookstores – I could spend hours in Barnes & Noble.  I feel like a kid on Christmas morning.  My reading list is a mile long and I may never complete it! I hope to have another reading nook similar to this one soon.  I’m in the middle of probably at least this many books J

·   Google – This search engine has answered so many simple and difficult questions.  It’s a time saver.

·   Cheesecake – My all-time favorite dessert! My friend & boss, Shanna makes the best!

·   Pinterest – Oh my goodness! You can capture everything you loved, love and will love on this site. It makes me happy, it helps me procrastinate, it makes me feel like I can be crafty and it makes me feel like I will never complete my To Do List...

I hope each of you had a great Thanksgiving with your family! May December be just as gracious to us all!

Happy Holidays!

Our Weekend...

Our weekend went by too fast as usual.  It was good though.  It was an Epic weekend for sports around our home.  That makes the weekend very memorable.  The kids and I got to see my parents, which is always a lot of fun, but not nearly long enough.  Then we wrapped it up by honoring our veterans, whom so graciously serve/served our country.

It is officially Playoff Season here in Quanah.  Friday night the Fighting Indians beat out the Windthorst Trojans for 2nd Place in our District.  The boys fought hard and played great defense to hold down the Trojans in the 2nd half.  The final score was Windthorst 23 and Quanah 26.

This Friday night Quanah will travel to Clyde to take on Forsan at 7 p.m.  If you can… drive over and support these Indians!!

Thanks Mom and Dad for coming to the game on Friday and for letting us hang out with you on Saturday!! These cute little girls are Olivia's friends Autumn and Montana.  She loves those girls! Here they are cheering on the Quanah Indians during Friday's game.

On Saturday, Quanah’s very own, Olivia Jalomo, won State in Cross Country with a time of 11:54.  She is a 2013 senior at Quanah High School.  State Champion!! What an honor! We are so proud of her and for her! She has worked hard for that title and her will, strength, endurance and desire are so evident! What a deserving girl and in the words of Coach Sims, “You will be a champion for the rest of your life!”

Then there was that one game.  You know, the one where Texas A&M beat Alabama who was – WAS -  ranked #1.  Yeah, they rolled that tide…Whoop! I sure do sound like an Aggie fan, huh? Before I met my husband I thought maroon was the worst color and cheer for the Aggies? Ummm no.  However, I love my husband so much I have adopted his love for this team.  I was just as excited about this win (well, he was ecstatic…I was excited) as he was.  I wasn’t able to watch the game on TV, but I did find myself thankful for ESPN Gamecast…..so that has to tell you I am a true fan now.  I surprise myself, but I love football and that was an EPIC game! I even know University of Texas fans that were happy for those Aggies.  Texas love.  Way to go Aggies…ranked #8!!

Sunday mornings, my favorite, are usually spent at our little country church and this Sunday was no different.  We started attending North Groesbeck Church of Christ a year ago this month.  Since Day 1 they have welcomed us with open arms and we have felt right at home.  Occasionally, Coach Sims is the speaker and yesterday was his turn.  I always enjoy his lessons.  He is knowledgeable and captivating.  I learn something from him all of the time.

If you are looking for a church home … we would love for you to come visit us! The church is 6 miles north of Hwy. 287 on FM 1166.

Our services are:
Sundays
10 a.m. Sunday School
11 a.m. Worship Service
12 p.m. meal

Wednesdays
6:30 meal
7:00 Bible Class

Last, but certainly not least, we attended the Veterans Ceremony in Quanah at the First Baptist Church.  It was a great program! The 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders performed…they were too cute! They did a fabulous job singing, reciting poems and sang the National Anthem with sign language! Pure talent! The community combined choir also sung the anthem for every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.  It was beautiful and I got a little teary eyed as Coach Sims stood up during the Army’s song.  He was also the keynote speaker and was amazing! Love to hear him speak! He did a great job and I am so thankful for him serving our country!

I spied this Thankful List this weekend.  Someone is not thankful for Obama, but they are thankful for Vegetable Laxatives....I had to giggle.  Politics Schmolitics! I'll let you folks worry about that stuff.  I've got cookies to bake and games to attend :) ...

I hope each of you had a great weekend and I hope you have an even better week!

Welcome to My Little World

I am just a small town girl that loves to visit the city, but always happy to return home.

What I love the most about my home is who I share it with: my husband --> Coach Sims, who is an Athletic Director and Head Football Coach and our two children, Olivia and Jonah.

The three most important things in my little world are faith, family and football.

FAITH

I am blessed by God and redeemed by Jesus.  You know, things just make so much more sense when God is at the center of your life. I wasted several years putting my own wants and desires first.   I feel like I have gotten a second chance at this thing called life and I really don't want to mess it up.  I am eternally grateful for God's grace and forgiveness.

FAMILY

My time at home is precious. I want our kids to have a wonderful childhood and I want to collect memories not just things.

Olivia Kate, our Little Miss Sunshine is just that.  She brings so much light and joy into our lives.  That girl is so sweet with just the right amount of attitude.  Her emotions ride on the sleeves of her pretty dresses and I could not relate more to anyone else in this world.  It is hard for me to fathom sometimes how much she is like me.  Bless her heart.  She is such a girly girl.  We can always find her dressing up as a princess, a fairy or a cheerleader.  She is constantly singing and I tell her she is our very own Broadway show.  She loves hugs and kisses and just being right next to me.  I love that.  She is our bright, independent, artistic, creative child...
I want her to grow up knowing she is loved by her family, but more importantly by God.  I want her to always protect her heart and to know that true beauty comes from within.

Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
 ~ Proverbs 4:23

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
 ~ 1 Peter 3:3

Jonah Bear, our Little Boy Blue...what a little treasure he is.  He has stolen this Mama's heart with his big blue eyes and his sweet little voice.  He is all boy and will spend hours playing in the dirt with his Hot Wheels and construction equipment.  He can tell us exactly what each piece of equipment is called and what they do.  He also loves sports.  From the time he started walking he could throw a ball with such skill and precision.  The best are his out of the blue hugs and I love yous.  He is outgoing and says hello to everyone.  He loves animals and Super Heroes.  He enjoys reading and will bring me the very same book to read night after night for weeks.  I happily read it to him  He is the child that always comes back for one more hug.  He is our smart, energetic and athletic child...
I also want him to grow up knowing he is loved not only by his family, but by God.  I want him to know that with God all things are possible and I want him to grow up being a respectful gentleman.

Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.  ~ Matthew 19:26

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord.  Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.  But do this with gentleness and respect.
 ~ 1 Peter 3:15

My husband Jason, Coach Sims.... I know if any of you have been alive the past year or so and follow me on Twitter or we are friends on Facebook... you know I love this man.  You have read all of our mushy, romantic posts and tweets back and forth.... and if you're tired of it then you should just stop reading here...

...because it's going to continue.  We don't play out our entire relationship online.  We like to keep a lot of things just between us, but we are not shy about posting stuff for the world to see.  I am proud of this man and I want everyone to know just how amazing he is.  I am his #1 fan and his biggest cheerleader.  I support him 1000%  - yes one thousand percent.  I respect him and I want to always honor him. He brings out the best in me and makes me beyond happy.  Not only is he my husband, but he is my best friend.

She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.
~ Proverbs 31:12

Love must be sincere.  Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.  Be devoted to one another in love.  Honor one another above yourselves.  Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.  Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. ~ Romans 12:9-12

FOOTBALL

We also love, live and breathe Texas Football... My husband is a talented and outstanding coach whom not only teaches boys how to be great athletes, but also teaches them how to be great men off the field.  He is passionate about his job and these kids and I truly admire him.  It is so nice to know he is doing what he loves.
I personally love all sports, but especially football.  I also love being a coach's wife! It is so much fun! Whether we are going to games, watching games on TV or just talking about it....I enjoy it.  Sitting in the stands cheering on our teams is the best! Watching these kids work hard and achieve their goals makes me very proud.

My hope for this blog is to not only share and journal about my little world, but to bring you joy and encouragement.  I hope it's always uplifting and makes you feel right at home.
